Algorithms are the heart of computer science, and the subject has countless practical applications as well as intellectual depth. This course is an introduction to algorithms for learners with at least a little programming experience. The course is rigorous but emphasizes the big picture and conceptual understanding over low-level implementation and mathematical details. After completing this course, you will be well-positioned to ace your technical interviews and speak fluently about algorithms with other programmers and computer scientists.

Specific topics include: "Big-oh" notation, sorting and searching, divide and conquer (master method, integer and matrix multiplication, closest pair), randomized algorithms (QuickSort, contraction algorithm for min cuts), data structures (heaps, balanced search trees, hash tables, bloom filters), graph primitives (applications of BFS and DFS, connectivity, shortest paths).

About the instructor: Tim Roughgarden has been a professor in the Computer Science Department at Stanford University since 2004. He has taught and published extensively on the subject of algorithms and their applications.

Syllabus:
Week 1
Introduction; "big-oh" notation and asymptotic analysis; divide-and-conquer basics.
Week 2
The master method for analyzing divide and conquer algorithms; the QuickSort algorithm and its analysis; probability review.
Week 3
Linear-time selection; graphs, cuts, and the contraction algorithm.
Week 4
Breadth-first and depth-first search; computing strong components; applications.
Week 5
Dijkstra's shortest-path algorithms; heaps; balanced binary search trees.
Week 6
Hashing; bloom filters.
Week 7
Final exam (1 attempt per 24 hours)

Specific topics in Part 2 include: greedy algorithms (scheduling, minimum spanning trees, clustering, Huffman codes), dynamic programming (knapsack, sequence alignment, optimal search trees, shortest paths), NP-completeness and what it means for the algorithm designer, analysis of heuristics, local search.

About the instructor: Tim Roughgarden has been a professor in the Computer Science Department at Stanford University since 2004. He has taught and published extensively on the subject of algorithms and their applications.

Welcome to a public version of Stanford's undergraduate course on compilers. The first week of lectures are available, and that is all that is assigned for the first week.
The course will last ten weeks. Starting with the second week, we'll begin having short in-lecture quizzes to help you master the material, as well as a weekly multiple-choice quiz. There will also be weekly homeworks using DeduceIt, a new (and novel) system for delivering free-form exercises in the form of derivations or proofs.We hope these assignments will help you learn the material at a level in a way that was previously impossible without one-on-one instruction. Halfway through the course there will be a midterm and at the end we'll have a final, both of which will be structured as longer, timed on-line quizzes.

No compiler course would be complete without the opportunity to have the experience of implementing a full compiler for at least a simplified programming language. We realize that many students will have claims on their time besides writing a substantial software system for an on-line class, but we will have a series of optional assignments that, if completed, will lead you to build a full compiler for COOL, the Classroom Object Oriented Language. We'll have more details on the compiler project once the course begins.
At the end of the class we'll issue certificates of accomplishment for those who finished the coursework, with an extra acknowledgment for those who have done the compiler project.

Digital Signal Processing is the branch of engineering that, in the space of just a few decades, has enabled unprecedented levels of interpersonal communication and of on-demand entertainment. By reworking the principles of electronics, telecommunication and computer science into a unifying paradigm, DSP is a the heart of the digital revolution that brought us CDs, DVDs, MP3 players, mobile phones and countless other devices.

Starting from the basic definition of a discrete-time signal, we will work our way through Fourier analysis, filter design, sampling, interpolation and quantization to build a DSP toolset complete enough to analyze a practical communication system in detail. To make the best of this class, it is recommended that you are proficient in basic calculus and linear algebra; several programming examples will be provided in the form of Python notebooks but you can use your favorite programming language to test the algorithms described in the course.

Information is everywhere: in our words and our world, our thoughts and our theories, our devices and our databases. Logic is the study of that information: the features it has, how it's represented, and how we can manipulate it. Learning logic helps you formulate and answer many different questions about information:

Does this hypothesis clash with the evidence we have or is it consistent with the evidence?
Is this argument watertight, or do we need to add more to make the conclusion to really follow from the premises?
Do these two sentences say the same things in different ways, or do they say something subtly different?
Does this information follow from what's in this database, and what procedure could we use to get the answer quickly?
Is there a more cost-effective design for this digital circuit? And how can we specify what the circuit is meant to do so we could check that this design does what we want?
These are questions about Logic. When you learn logic you'll learn to recognise patterns of information and the way it can be represented. These skills are used whether we're dealing with theories, databases, digital circuits, meaning in language, or mathematical reasoning, and they will be used in the future in ways we haven't yet imagined. Learning logic is a central part of learning to think well, and this course will help you learn logic and how you can apply it.

If you take this subject, you will learn how to use the core tools in logic: the idea of a formal language, which gives us a way to talk about logical structure; and we'll introduce and explain the central logical concepts such as consistency and validity; models; and proofs. But you won't only learn concepts and tools. We will also explore how these techniques connect with issues in linguistics, computer science, electronic engineering, and philosophy.

Blockchain is interesting because it brings together economics (movement of value), philosophy (concepts of trust and roots in libertarian thinking) and advanced technology (cryptography and distributed ledger technology). In this series of lessons we'll learn a technique to convert a Depth pass from a 3d application into a Disparity map to take advantage of Nuke's advanced Stereo tools. Prior to this course, creating disparity maps required the Ocula plugin, but all the data lives in every depth pass, it just needs to be transformed into a powerful disparity map.

We'll begin this project by learning about Nuke's interpretation and implementation of disparity maps. Then we'll dive right in and learn the mathematical relationship between depth and disparity maps and learn how to offset and multiply our depth into a pixel offset value and shuffle that value into the disparity channels. With our disparity map we will be able to use the advanced reconverge features, as well as automatically place any node that has a position or translate property from one view to the other. We'll finish by learning how to use our disparity values to automatically update stereo offset using expressions.
